Then Snake, the pro from DC, sends me this video, and I cried.
"I will believe what others have doubted."
"When I get there, I will arrive violently."
"My heart and my body will carry me when my limbs are too weak."
That video pumped me up for a good hour, and then my heart was defeated again.
Dominic believes in me.
Snake believes in me.
Dirty Biker believes in me.
Everyone else seems to think I am being too ambitious.
In the end, it's not going to matter what everyone else thinks.
I have to make up my mind before the start of the race.
Saturday, I raced my 1st MTB race and won 3rd in the expert division. The trails were in horrendous condition after 6 inches of rain last week. I was slow as shit, but I finished. I even won back half my registration money. This race was a HUGE reality check for me. It was a tough, tough race, on rough terrain, much like Mohican will be. It took me well over 3 hours and it HURT.
Sunday, I went out to ride on my own, after a leisurely morning spent sleeping in, walking the dogs and catching up with Dominic. I left the house and crossed the ferry and turned right, and then turned left up the first hill I saw, where the road closure signs were. I climbed to the top, and made my way back down, seeing Marty and AK, who are both doing Mohican 100K. I waved at them but they didn't recognize me in my RideClean jersey.

I turned back onto route 8, and then the Bio Wheels women came up from behind me. I popped in their paceline for a few, catching up with Gerry, the nicest girl on that team. She is one of the fastest girls in town, races CX, MTB and road, and kicks ass in all three disciplines. I took a pull, and then took off up another hill to the left of route 8. I continued along, climbing, descending, and recovering on 8. On the way back, I saw Marty and AK again and rode one more hill with them, bullshitting with them all the way up. Both are looking strong and ready for Mohican.
Last night we spent some time with the kids in the neighborhood.

Today I spent the day resting my legs at the pool with Dominic. We weren't the oldest people riding the water slide, either. My lungs are in really good shape. I swam 50 meters under water in 21 seconds. Being 'smokefree' is awesome.
Then we went down to the Taste of Cincinnati. It's a tradition for us. We like the rides. One of us always pukes. This year, Dominic hurled.

Hope you had a good weekend too.

You do what your heart tells you!
And yes, being smoke-free rocks out
I believe in you...
I agree with Sherri. Whatever feels right for you, don't feel pressured into one or the other ... but most of all: Don't forget to have FUN!
Have any of the people doubting you actually finished a 100 mile mountain bike race? I've finished three hundies and I'm doing the LBJ again in a few weeks. From everything I've seen about your training/life here and over at DC, you're ready for the 100 miler for sure. Fuck people that don't believe in you and ride well next weekend. I can't wait to read about it.
Do it. Neither you nor anyone else knows your limits unless you try to hit them.
Just do it, and enjoy the journey. It is worth it to see how far you can push. Don't worry about time cuts and all that, just ride and smile. You can't predict what the day will bring, so just have fun.
Also, CarboRocket man himself will be there. Brad Keyes, single speed rigid, tell him hello for me. Maybe he can get you some more drink mix :)
Just do it. 100 miles or 100k are both hard, and fun.
1 wanted 7 laps at mesa verde, after 6 in under 10 hours I had more than enough time, but my back said no, i didn't fail, I succeeded in riding a shit ton and having a lot of fun. Yesterday, I was running 7th in a race I usually am fighting for the win in, island vacations kind put a damper ion training. 1 mile from the finish, my pedal seized and I got to walk to the finish, took 10th. People asked me if I was mad, no, I wasn't mad, shit happens and it is only a bike race. Adversity makes us stronger, and in the grand scheme of things a seized pedal is not really adverse.
I'm glad you did the expert race, that is a good way to push yourself. Rest a lot this week, stay hydrated and never get hungry. Don't ride hard at all. Most importantly, don't worry about the race. Think of it as one of those long days of fun at the Versailles trails. Just pedal and have fun.
I believe in you, Judi.
"judi, you can't do it" means "don't achieve something i couldn't thereby making me look bad and giving you (another)reason to reject me."
"judi, do it" means "stop overthinking it, our bodies can do accomplish ridiculous feats, achieve, evolve, be like me, give me (another) reason to love you."
Rip that shit up. Don't believe and disbelievers.
Like Sherri said, it's in your heart, you'll pick the right ride for you.
I believe in you, and WTF, worst case is the red lantern (dfl). I've been there and it doesn't hurt for that long, just makes you want to go harder next time.
I believe in you too...
Yeah so heres the deal,
Do the hundered.
Knock the first four hours down like you are just our for a fun ride, don't hold back. Then take the next 7-8 like its a day of work that you need to get done.
All you really need to do is get to mile 85 anyway, once you are there you will realize you could do 15 more with one leg, plus you will probabally find someone to ride the last 15 miles with.
Have fun!
It costs the same amount of money to attend the race regardless of race distance. Go for the full meal deal so you can see where you are at and what you can improve to boost your comfort level.
Really try and relax before and after the race. In twenty years you won't remember much of the race itself but you will remember the journey getting there and back.
I believe in you. I have learned over the years that if you can beat addiction you can accomplish way more than what people ever could realize. Good luck and enjoy the ride.
I believe in you! Everyday, I read your gratitude list and I swell with pride...for being your friend, for all of our love for one another, for years of not living being made up this very moment! I believe in you when you don't just like you believe in me when I don't...you are a majestic beauty! grander than you could ever dream! you don't do this for "them" anyway- you do it for you! I love you, judi!
