So much for a taper week...

Yesterday was just gorgeous - sunny, low humidity. I love these dog days......

Me and Dominic and his friend from the bike shop, Ryan, rode the 10 miles to my swim club. Emily was meeting me there too. The ride was fun, the boys had to follow me because they didn't know the way, so I had to maintain 21 or more or else Dominic tried to bust ahead.

I had a 2500m swim to do and Ryan was training for his very first sprint triathlon which takes place in 5 weeks. He's not a strong swimmer at all, so me and Em tried to help him. I think if he gets in 3 swims a week until the race, he should be fine. Me and Emily looked like Michael Phelps compared to him - he was watching us for a while. Emily swam 60 laps and I swam 100 and for the last lap we raced. She won! Bitch!

For the rest of the day we just lounged at the pool. We saw some old friends of ours from way back which was kind of cool. I remember when this girl was pregnant with her first kid when we were 17. I was still in high school. Now the kid is 20! I am like OMG, how old are we???? They were attending a bday party for one of the smaller kids. I just freak out when I realize we really aren't 20 anymore.

Then me and Ryan and Dominic all rode back to my house. We took a different route which included some kick ass hills. That about killed me cuz I had a heavy messenger bag on my back.

Total mileage from yesterday:

2500m swim
21 mile ride

Today I ran 13 miles alone, just me and my MP3. Amanda had something else she had to do at lunch so I did my own thing. I figured one more long run before my race Sunday would be ok. I felt really good running, just singing along to my music. Like an idiot, I picked a route with some big hills. Not rolling hills, continuous hills that lasted a mile a more - but it was ok. That meant some fun downhill sprints too since it was an out and back.

I ran for 2:15 and I don't care, I know I am a slowpoke!

Songs that totally rocked my run:

Coolio - 1,2,3,4.....
Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
Danzig - She Rides

After my run

Ari's toe seems a lot better. Two more weeks and we get follow up xrays. He and Lucy were just chilling out on the back porch when I snapped this picture. Lucy was all up in his business.

Ari's thinking, please don't bite it

Great workouts... glad that you got that 13 in alone - it's definitely a confidence booster. So now for the rest of the week - RELAX! :) Looking forward to meeting you Sunday!

Somtimes those solo runs are good when you can just plug in.

Hard getting older when we are still so young at heart.

I am giving you a VERY stern look. Here are 3 things that you should NOT be doing while you are tapering:
1. Racing friends in the pool, especially in a 2500 yd workout.
2. Riding your bike as fast as you possibly can rather than sitting in the draft of someone faster and yelling out directions from back there.
3. Running 13 miles. ESPECIALLY 13 hilly miles.

Now I want you to go to your room and think about what you've done. You can come out again when it's time to race.

Just found your blog Judy. I'd like to say I'm an excellent swimmer. I can dog paddle with the best of em. LOL. Anyway, good luck with the race this weekend.
